The Platinum Head All Gold Eagle is the legendary Eagle pendant hand-crafted by Goro Takahashi. Throughout the lifetime of Goro devoting his time on production of goro’s, it is no exaggeration to call that the Platinum Head All Gold Eagle is the masterpiece. Going beyond mere products, it is truly a work of art.

The key motif of this goro’s piece comes from the Bald Eagle, widely known as the national bird of the United States. During the sweat lodge ritual with Lakota Tribe, where he received the honorific title of “Yellow Eagle”, Goro saw a golden eagle standing there, clutching a bright red stone in its sharp talons. His chest hair was swaying in the wind. He has expressed this experience as, “When the sun and the bald eagle overlapped, the bald eagle looked golden and only its head looked white. I created this item with that image in mind." Since then, the eagle has become a central motif in his work and appears in goro’s feathers, rings, belts, and crosses.

Among Native Americans, the eagle is considered to be the closest to God and is believed to bring messages as a messenger of God. Eagle feathers are also thought to have great power, and only a few authorized persons are allowed to pick up fallen feathers. Moreover, the eagle motif signifies prestige and leadership because of its smartness.

The most common Eagle Pendants of goro’s features a silver body with a gold head. However, the Platinum Head All Gold Eagle has a gold body with a platinum head. When Goro Takahashi crafted this Platinum Head All Gold Eagle, he said: “I made this eagle because the bald eagle has a white head. See, it has a white head! See, the head is white!”

Market Value

The current market value of Platinum Head All Gold Eagle is over 2 Million USD (16M HKD / 2.7M SGD). At first glance, many of you may question how such an accessory made from gold and platinum can be traded at such a premium price. Well, the answer to this question is the determined craftsmanship of Goro Takahashi and the increasing demand in the market.

The concept of the market value of goro’s is identical to what vintage Rolex offers. As an example, Rolex’s Antimagnetique Reference 4113 (1942) sold at the price of $2.5 million in 2016 and Paul Newman’s Rolex Daytona at $17.8 million. Why? A simple economic theory - the law of supply and demand. The more people demand to purchase while there is limited supply in the market, the equilibrium price will be pressured to increase.

The same theory applies for goro’s. There is only one goro’s Official Store available in Harajuku that supplies the goro’s pieces for its customer, meanwhile the demand from the core fans of goro’s increases with the presence of celebrities wearing it. Platinum Head All Gold Eagle is a special-made piece of goro’s and only a handful of the supplies are available globally. This piece was only presented and offered to Goro’s close friends and VIP customers, including celebrities such as Takuya Kimura and Hiroshi Fujiwara. After the passing of Goro, goro’s store has no longer been manufacturing the Platinum Head All Gold Eagle for the public. The limited supply in the market and increasing demand from the core goro’s fans are driving the market price to the moon.

Features of the goro's Eagle Pendant

1. Eagle Stamp

The first highlight of this Eagle is the Eagle Stamp on the back of the body. This Eagle stamp is made with K18 Gold and is hammered by the hand of a craftsman. Similar to the other Eagle pendant, the gold Eagle Stamp is soldered directly to the body with precision. The positioning of this Eagle Stamp is crucial for goro’s Eagle to create an exquisite balance and appearance.

2. Weight

The normal Eagle (L) pendant would weigh anywhere from 37~39g. The Platinum Head All Gold Eagle, however, uses the two heavier metals. The Platinum Head All Gold Eagle available at DELTAone weighs 67.90g, which is almost twice as much as the normal Eagle (L) pendant.

3. Material

This is the only Eagle item of goro’s that uses gold and platinum to make the Eagle’s body and its head. Goro is a man of perfection, he insisted on using white material for the head to produce a closer look to the real bald eagle. This is why the head portion is made from platinum.

The market value of platinum was more premium compared to gold during the late 1980s to 1997 when Goro was still serving his customer at the goro’s Official Store in harajuku. For example in 1989, the cost of gold was 1,700 JPY/g whereas platinum would cost 2,300 JPY/g. Currently, the gold costs 8,800 JPY/g versus 4,400 JPY/g for platinum.

As you can realize, platinum was more valuable than gold at the time, which was used for this special piece. Although the casting mold was used in the manufacturing process, it was solely crafted by Goro Takahashi for the soldering of the Head & Body and Eagle Stamp.
